This technique for biopsy uses a slightly larger hollow needle than for fine needle aspiration. The larger hollow needle allows for removal of a cylindrical piece of tissue form the breast.
The needle is guided to the correct location via ultrasound. Local anesthetic is used during the procedure to minimize discomfort. The small size of the incision allows the incision to heal without the need for stitches.
