If mammography raises a suspicion of cancer, a biopsy is needed. Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration uses a very thin needle to remove fluid and/or cells.
The needle is precisely guided to the correct location via ultrasound. The samples are sent to the laboratory for analysis.
It is reassuring to know that the majority (over 75%) of suspicious areas requiring biopsy are not cancerous.
