Meet the biggest deal in breast cancer detection in over 30 years.
What It Is
3D mammography, or tomosynthesis, is the most advanced imaging technology available. Unlike standard 2D mammography which takes only one image, 3D that takes multiple X-rays of breast tissue, 1-millimeter at a time to recreate a 3D picture of the breast. These super detailed images give doctors a clearer view into breast masses and helps them discover abnormalities at their earliest and most treatable stages.
Who It’s For
Whether you’re coming in for a routine screening or in need of a diagnosis for an abnormality, we offer 3D mammography to all of patients, at no additional cost. Plus, 2D images are taken at the same time to ensure the technician collects the fullest picture possible.
What To Expect
3D mammography follows the exact same process as 2D imaging. If you’ve never had a mammogram, here’s how it goes: A specially qualified radiologic technologist will position and gently compress the breast upon an imaging receptor plate. Compression is necessary to even out the breast thickness and spread out the breast tissue which allows for lower dose of radiation and the clearest possible X-ray image. It’s a pretty painless procedure but you may feel mild discomfort when each image is taken. Most likely, at least two images will be taken in slightly different positions for each breast and the exam typically takes 15 minutes.
